As a midwife, you would think that I felt pretty prepared for pregnancy, labour, birth and beyond. When I was expecting my first little love in 2015, I craved more. I felt this strange self-imposed pressure to “birth well”. A trekking expedition overseas a few years prior brought up some big questions for me around my own pain threshold, and anxiety of labour started to creep up on me. A double toe cramp mid-way up a mountain made me I realised I needed some strategies and perhaps work on pain perception, because lets just say I struggled (haha).
I was drawn to the Calmbirth Program by Peter Jackson because I witnessed many couples who just rocked their individual births and basically, I wanted some of that! I fell in love with the program and equally as important so too did my husband (who let’s be real, wasn’t feeling the same pull to attend the weekend workshop as I— at that point!). The Psychology of Birth through to the comprehensive Labour Toolbox, Role of the Partner/Support Person, Conscious Parenting and more; we were mind-blown and left that weekend feeling like “bring it on”!!
I personally feel indebted to Calmbirth for helping me to dream my birth into reality. Not once but twice, as we did the course again for my second pregnancy in 2017.
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
After my own experience with the program, I vowed to become a Calmbirth Educator so that I could continue this ripple effect for positive birth - like casting a stone into a pond, touching as many others around me as I possibly can. I want women to know their birth matters. How you feel and think about your birth matters! It may only be one day but it is a day that will stay with you for your entire life!
With a calling to do this work (can hardly believe I get to call it that) I established Seasons of Mama at the beginning of 2019 with a vision to support Mama’s during all of their Mama seasons from pregnancy through to postpartum. I like to think of my business as a high vibe zone, a safe and non-judgmental space for birthing women/people to come together as a collective sharing knowledge, ideas and creating meaningful connections
